“2016-2017 Impact Statistics.” The Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship, www.gilmanscholarship.org/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/Gilman-Impact-Statistics-AY16-17.pdf.
The Impact Statistics is a PDF document from the Gilman website itself which provides informative statistics that are relevant to my research. It shows the statistics of students who studied abroad with the Gilman Scholarship during the 2016-17 school year. The statistics include what percent of students were first generation college students, what percent were minority students, where they studied abroad, and so on. It will give me a good numerical insight on the effect the scholarship had for students.

Dwyer, Ph.D, Mary M, and Courtney K Peters. “The Benefits of Study Abroad New Study Confirms Significant Gains.” Clark University, www2.clarku.edu/offices/studyabroad/pdfs/IES Study.pdf.
A quick document highlighting the benefits of studying abroad from a large scale survey that is not directly correlated to the Gilman Scholarship; in fact the study was conducted before the Gilman Scholarship even existed. The results are from a large scale survey that surveyed around 3,400 students regardless of where they completed their study abroad. The results include things like personal development and intercultural development. I believe it is going to be a great outside resource that will enrich my research about the effects that the Gilman Scholarship had on students.

“Multicultural Students in Study Abroad: Their Interests, Their Issues, and Their Constraints” is a good peer-reviewed, lateral research article for my project. It is not tied to the Gilman Scholarship, but it provides great insight information on multicultural students studying abroad. It begins by talking about the overall benefits of studying abroad, the benefits of studying abroad for multicultural students, and the many details (or lack thereof) and constraints for these students. It will provide me with a good “outside” perspective on the effects of studying abroad for students; with no association to the Gilman Scholarship.

“The Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Program.” Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, eca.state.gov/files/bureau/gilman_infographic_report_-_2016.pdf.
This document is similar to the first because it provides helpful statistics, but it is much more in depth. Whereas the previous document was only one page long, this one is 12 pages long. It has quotes throughout the document from Gilman Scholars about how impactful the scholarship was to their studies, which is exactly something I am looking for that will enhance the quality of my research.
Thompson-Jones, Mary. “Not for Kids like Me: How the Gilman Program Is Changing Study Abroad.” University of Pennsylvania , 2012.
A dissertation that essentially shows how the program grew since it has started the impact it has had to students that received the scholarship, and overall how it is changing study abroad. It is a great resource that focuses most of the study on how the Gilman Scholarship came to be in the first place, which I believe will provide good comprehension and a good foundation for the rest of my community engagement project research.
